How To Make More Time When You’ve Already Got Too Much To Do

You work your butt off all week waiting for the weekend. And then the weekend seems to zip on by like a car in a Fast and Furious movie.

You lather, rinse, and repeat that cycle until, before ya know it, it’s December 31st and you’re writing out resolutions that look a lot like last year’s resolutions.

Let’s cut the crap already.

Goals aren’t something that just get completed on their own without any effort from you. You have to make the time for them.

But how do you do that when you’ve got:

  • a demanding 8-10 hour per day job
  • a 1-hour commute (and that’s just one way!)
  • a family that needs your help
  • an inner circle that needs you there for happy hours and advice (from life and business to love and beyond)?

With all of that going on, how on Earth are you supposed to find the time to get ish done?

Well, we’re sad to say you can’t “find” that time (a week will always be 168 hours long after all). But you can make it.

Below you’ll find 3 simple and easy ways to make more time for your goals. And they’re all things you can start doing today (so you can get more done right now).

Without further ado, here are our top 3 ways to get more stuff done this month than you have in the last 3 years.

Contrary to popular belief, getting more things done, is actually not about doing more things. It’s about doing the right things. Taking the right action at the right time.

1. Wake Up 30 Minutes Earlier

Before you roll your eyes and give an excuse as to why getting up 30 minutes earlier is not for you, hear us out.

Millionaires, CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, presidents, queens, and many 1 percenters all have one main thing in common: they’re early risers.

  • Michelle Obama starts her day with a workout at 4:30 a.m.
  • Arianna Huffington gets out of bed at 5 a.m. for 30 minutes of meditation.
  • Tory Burch wakes up at 5:45 a.m. to check emails, exercise, and get her kids out of bed.
  • PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi wakes up at 4 a.m. and is in the office by 7.

According to Forbes magazine, early risers earn better grades, are awesome problem solvers, and they’re just all-around better planners. Sounds like an all-around win, amirite?

Think about it: everyone is usually sound asleep early in the morning. When the world is quiet, it’s easier to listen to your heart and allow it to guide you.

Waking up early (even if only 30 minutes) helps you carve out time to create your day. You’ve going from being reactive to proactive, and you feel a lot more relaxed and in control of where you life is going as a result.

Think of all you can get done in 30 quiet minutes in the morning. Are you fantasizing about all that you can cross off that To Do list of yours? Yep. You’re well on your way to being an early riser.

2. Write Out 1-2 Things You Want To Accomplish Today

Okay, forget about work for a minute. Forget about your family for a minute. Forget about all of the things on your 10-page-long To Do list.

Think about you.

What are the goals gnawing at your spirit? What passions have you been ignoring because you don’t have the time? What do you keep putting off until “someday” gets here?

We want you to write 1 to 2 actions you can take TODAY that will push your forward.

For example, let’s say you’d like to start earning $1,000 per month in your side hustle [Read more: 4 “No Website Needed” Ways to Make An Extra $10,000 This Year]. You already have your side hustle idea, you know your customer base, and now it’s just about making some bank.

Let’s take the “Vegan Diet” niche for example. You’ve been working hard to perfect your vegan ice cream recipe, and you’re finally ready to start selling some. But in order to get to the $1,000 per month, you need some customers.

Your 1-2 daily goals could look like this:

Monday: Message a relevant Meetup.com group and ask to be a speaker. Tell your friends and family that you’re on the market for clients and open to all referrals.

Tuesday: Find at least 10 blogs that you can guest post on. Create a guest post pitch to send to those blogs.

Wednesday: Talk to your a friend in PR about how to pitch to media outlets. Decide which social media platforms you want to use to promote your side hustle.

Thursday: Set up your social media profiles. Create logos using PicMonkey or Canva.

Friday: Create your first social media post. Share it across all of your social media networks.

Saturday (optional): Start connecting with people in Facebook groups who have similar side hustles to you. Share tips and tricks and ask for advice.

Sunday: Review everything you’ve accomplished this week. Doesn’t it feel great?

See? The task of earning $1,000 per month gets less daunting the more you break it up into teeny, tiny pieces. Furthermore, your dream of dominating the vegan diet niche just got even closer to being a reality, and in only 1-week’s time.

Imagine what you could accomplish in just three weeks, three months, even three years! Focusing on daily progress is the way to get there.

3. Duplicate Yourself

Ok, can we tell you something you’re not going to like?

You can’t do it all by yourself. Reread that sentence and then let out a sigh of relief. Did your shoulders just relax? Awesome!

No matter what you’re trying to accomplish, going at it alone is a death sentence. When you feel like you have to carry the entire world on your shoulders, it leaves very little room for fun, mystery, and spontaneity.

Who wants to live like that?

That’s why we recommend that you duplicate yourself by outsourcing as many tasks as you comfortably can. What are some ways you can free up your time?

  • Hire a maid to clean your place instead of you spending your entire Saturday morning doing it (check out Groupon.com for some good deals)

  • Have your groceries delivered to your door instead of doing it yourself (Try out Instacart, Shipt, or, of course, AmazonFresh)

  • Hire a personal trainer to create a workout plan for you instead of you perusing tons of fitness magazines trying to assemble something on your own

  • Listen to books on your commute to work so that way you won’t have to “make time for it” after work (Amazon Audible is great for this very reason!)

  • Use a personal shopper service to find clothes that fit your personality and style and free yourself from sinking loads of time into the search

  • Hire a personal assistant for up to 5 hours per week to do the stuff you don’t like to do, such as scheduling doctor’s appointments, looking online for the best vacation package deals, and manually updating your website with new products  (You can find a Virtual Assistant on Upwork.com or Fiverr.com)

This list should give you some ideas on what you can do right now to start freeing up some time so you can put even more focus on your BIG goals.

It’s Not About Doing More

Contrary to popular belief, getting more things done, is actually not about doing more things. It’s about doing the right things. Taking the right action at the right time.
